H. Joseph Reiser, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Reiser has more than 30 years of pharmaceutical and biotech experience in both public and private companies. Dr. Reiser served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of CureDM Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of new therapies that ameliorate or reverse diabetes. He was President and Chief Executive Officer and member of the board of Locus Pharmaceuticals, a small molecule-oriented oncology company until 2008. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Reiser served as President, Chief Executive Officer and member of the board of Cytogen Corporation; a NASDAQ-traded public product based oncology company. Prior to joining Cytogen, Dr. Reiser was Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Pharmaceuticals and a member of the board of directors for Berlex Laboratories, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Schering AG. During his 17-year tenure at Berlex, Dr. Reiser held numerous senior leadership positions, including serving as the first President of Schering Berlin's Venture Corporation. Dr. Reiser served on numerous Boards and as Chairman of the New Jersey Biotechnology Council from 2001 to 2002. Dr. Reiser is also currently a member of the board and executive committee of the Pennsylvania Biotech Association and continuous as a consultant and member of the board of CureDM. Dr. Reiser received his Ph.D. in Physiology from Indiana University School of Medicine, where he also earned his Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees.

Theodore R. Koziol, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer

Prior to joining Cortendo, Dr. Koziol co-founded and remains the President of BioPancreate, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company founded in 2010. Prior to BioPancreate, Dr. Koziol served as a consultant to the Pharmaceutical industry from January 2010 – Sept 2010. Prior to that, Dr. Koziol served from September 1994 to October 2009 in a number of senior positions at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals prior to its acquisition by Pfizer in October 2009, including Vice President of Licensing & Business Development and Head of Regional Licensing & Business Development. Prior to Wyeth, Dr. Koziol worked at Berlex Laboratories, the U.S. Subsidiary of Schering AG (now Bayer) from September 1977 to September 1994 in a number of business and scientific positions including Head, New Business & Technology Development, Office of Technology (1992-1994) and Head, Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (1989-1992). Dr. Koziol received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Seton Hall University and his B.A. in Chemistry from Drew University.

Per Marin, M.D. Ph.D. Founder and Sr. Clinical Advisor

Dr Mårin received his Medical degree in 1978 at Sahlgrens University Hospital in Göteborg, Sweden and has practiced medicine and clinical research for more than thirty years. In his doctoral thesis in 1992 he published novel methods for evaluating central metabolic events in the human body. He served as a teacher of internal medicine since1989 and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine since 1994. He was also appointed to a post of Researcher at Swedish Medical Research Council in 1996. Prior appointments also included Chief of the Medical Clinic and Head of the Emergency department at Sahlgrens University Hospital. Currently, Dr. Mårin is the Head of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Section at Capio Axess Clinic in Göteborg. Dr. Mårin is well-recognized internationally for his pioneering studies on endocrine disturbances in obesity and metabolic syndrome, in particular, intervention studies demonstrating the importance of testosterone, estrogen, growth hormone and cortisol in the development of metabolic syndrome. He discovered and described the concept of cortisol regulation as a treatment for metbolic syndrome in 1991 and filed the first patent on cortisol regulation in 1994. He was a founder of Cortendo AB in 1996 and currently serves as a Senior Advisor for Scientific, Medical and Patent issues.

Grethe Støa Birketvedt MD, PhD, Board Member and Sr. Clinical Advisor

Dr. Birketvedt has served as a member of the Board of Directors, since 2003 and has also served as the company's Medical Director. Since 1988, Dr Birketvedt has worked as a physician and researcher in the field of obesity and obesity related diseases such as type 2 diabetes and Metabolic syndrome and is currently practicing at Aker Hospital, University of Oslo as a specialist in obesity and related diseases. Prior to 1988 she worked as a General Practitioner. Dr. Birketvedt received her Ph.D. degree in 1995 from the University Hospital of Tromsø, Norway, based on her Doctorial Thesis on the Regulatory Mechanisms in Appetite and Eating Disorder with special emphasize on obesity mechanisms and treatment. In 1995 she was invited as a Visiting Scholar/Professor to join the Stunkard's team at the Weight and Eating Disorder Department of the University of Pennsylvania where she was responsible for a NIH study characterizing the neuroendocrine and behavioral traits in the Night Eating Syndrome. In 2000 she was invited to join the research team at the Hypertension and Cardiovascular Department at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York as a Research Professor, a position she held till Nov 2005. She has New York State Medical Licensure. Dr. Birketvedt has published more than 40 original articles, given more than 300 lectures and has co-authored 10 books, 2 in her field.
